An invitation is extended to people with an interest in developing a panel session around a stimulating or controversial theme in the general field of HCI. Topics and/or themes for a panel session may also be proposed by individuals with an interest in chairing a panel on a topic that excites them. Preference will be given to topics that raise forward-looking and/or contentious issues, and that will promote debate among panel members and involvement with the audience. All suggestions will be assessed for their topicality and ability to generate stimulating debate.

Additional inquiries to:Deadline: 30th November 2000
Leading researchers and practitioners have the opportunity to present a tutorial on Monday 9th and/or Tuesday 10th July. Tutorials may cover any aspects of Human-Computer Interaction but Human Interaction and Communication are particularly welcome. Tutorials will be selected by a panel of referees and will only run if they attract the required minimum number of participants. Tutorials will be chosen on the basis of quality of presentation and value to the audience.
Tutorial instructors are eligible for some reimbursement of expenses and a modest fee.
Submit a tutorial proposal by the deadline date for submissions: 30th November 2000

Workshops provide 1 or 2 day forums for participants to exchange experience and explore research issues or topics of special interest to the HCI community. Workshops should have specific objectives, address stimulating topics and aim to report their activity. Workshops usually have about 20 participants and meet within the two-day period prior to the conference. Proposal should be no more than 1000 words and should include objectives, theme/topic, workshop organisation and duration, target audience, and expected outcomes.
Submit a workshop proposal by the deadline date for submission: 30th November 2000
Additional inquiries to:Deadline: 20th February 2001
Submissions for short papers are invited, addressing any of the areas identified in the conference topics. Authors are encouraged to submit late-breaking research results and work in progress that show the latest innovative ideas to stimulate audiences. Short paper submissions should report original work and must not have been published previously nor be a shortened version of previously published papers. Short papers must be submitted in English.
Submissions are limited to 2 pages in length and the format must be the same as for a long paper. The review process will retain the anonymity of authors and reviewers.

Submissions are invited from current postgraduate students undertaking doctoral study who would benefit from detailed discussions of their doctoral research by a panel of established researchers and peers. The consortium will operate in a workshop format, providing feedback on the participants' current research and guidance for future directions. Extended abstracts by the participating students will be published in the conference proceedings.
Participants for the consortium will be selected by the Doctoral Consortium Committee. Some of the participating students may be invited to submit a full paper where the Committee considers the work to be appropriate.
The Doctoral Consortium will take place immediately preceding the main conference. Students chosen to attend the doctoral consortium will have their conference registration fees waived.

Submissions are invited that show novel user interface design, systems and interaction techniques, that demonstrate innovative interaction techniques in the usability process itself, or give glimpses into the future of HCI. Video clips between 2 and 10 minutes are preferred. A written summary will be published in the conference proceedings and the video clip in the video proceedings.
Submit copies of a written summary and CD-R/ZIP/MO disks with an MPEG-1 (ISO/IEC 11172) file and optional text/HTML/PDF document files by the deadline date, 20th February 2001

Proposals for the Interactive Experience are invited. Entries should consist of live demonstrations of experimental interactive systems, user interfaces or interactive art. Where possible and appropriate, displays should offer conference delegates opportunities for hands-on interaction, preferably without the assistance of a demonstrator. Items for the Interactive Experience will be selected on the basis of their technical and artistic novelty, and on their merit and relevance.

Contributions are invited describing the introduction, application, adaptation or extension of HCI theory, methods, tools and techniques in professional research or development environments, and the structural, organisational, financial and professional implications of this activity. Case studies, pioneering applications in new domains or sectors, cost-benefit analyses, organisational impact, participative design experience, management structures, trade-offs and discount methods and when to use them, the place of the HCI professional in the development group, promotion of the HCI profession, training needs and requirements in a changing market, professional accreditation, and the balancing of research focus with industrial deadlines in collaborative projects, are among the areas which this section is intended to cover. Unsuccessful cases are often just as valuable as those which succeed, and participants are particularly encouraged to share through this forum their experience of mistakes and blind alleys, and the lessons learned from them. Papers may also highlight priority areas for further research, and areas of expertise which educators and trainers need to address to meet the evolving skill requirements of professional system designers and developers. Submissions should not exceed 6 pages, but may include supporting video material (PAL or NTSC VHS).
Submit a Professional Practice and Experience proposal by the deadline date, 20th February 2001
Additional inquiries to:Exhibits are invited from interested commercial organisations, concerned with the design, development, deployment or evaluation of all types of interactive systems, services or devices, or from organisations involved in HCI or human factors research areas and involving such aspects as usability, support tools and techniques, and education.
